Union County enlists superintendents' help with Census outreach

Eric Phillips, Executive Director of the Union County Economic Development Partnership and CEO of the Union County Chamber of Commerce, recently sent the following email to school superintendents requesting their help with 2010 Census outreach efforts.

Dear Union County Superintendents –

The Census is fast approaching. The forms will be mailed out in mid-March and we would like to get the news out to the students so that they relay the information to their parents. Schools can help immensely by getting the word out. In addition to the requests below, we are asking you to consider the following:

1. We are preparing a “email flyer” with the hope that you can email it to all of your student and parent email addresses.
2. We will also provide you information including an advertisement and potential article for any school newsletters.
3. We are developing a “thermometer” that we are asking schools to place in the front lobby that will show what percentage of Union County residents have returned their Census forms. We will be providing these to you.
4. We have also included a website below to find out what other things you can do to encourage return of the Census forms.

Thank you for your consideration. Please contact me with any questions or comments.

Only one Union County Complete Count Committee meeting remains--a celebration and media presentation--which will take place on the Union County Courthouse Lawn on April 1, 2010 at 10:30 a.m.

The website referred to above is http://www.census.gov/schools/. Children play an integral role in promoting the return of the Census forms.
